Frequently asked questions
“When should I book in for my bridal preview consultation?”
As soon as you like but this is the one day you want to look your best. By getting your preview consultation booked in early you can rest easy that this element of your day is all organised and in the hands of a pro so Charlotte recommends leaving it no later than 6-8 weeks before your wedding.
Usually once you've chosen your dress (so any necklines can be considered) and your colour scheme/bridesmaids dresses is a good time.
"Is there anything I should bring along to my preview consultation with me?”
Charlotte recommends you bring (or email beforehand):
- at least five reference/inspiration images of the type of makeup you are looking for on your big day;
- an image of your dress;
- your colour swatches for bridesmaids dresses and/or flowers, and
- your veil and or any accessories being worn.
Charlotte also suggests wearing a comfortable bottom half as you'll be sat down for some time and wearing a top in a similar colour to your wedding gown to get an idea of how the makeup looks against it.
“Is there anything else I should do to prepare for the preview consultation?”
Charlotte encourages you to start a good skincare regime ideally including regular facials if time and budget allow before your consultation as this will create a great base for your makeup to adhere to.
Professional eyebrow shaping can also make a world of difference to the appearance of your makeup and is also recommended.
If you intend to have a spray tan for your wedding day, Charlotte recommends you also book one before your preview consultation as the depth of your skin tone will impact the tones of eyeshadow and lipstick selected for you.
A nice way to spend the afternoon after having had your makeup done is to have a dress fitting with your bridal party so you can see how the makeup looks against your dress too.
"Should I wear makeup for my preview consultation?”
Yes please. Charlotte encourages you to wear makeup to your preview as it gives her an idea of your usual day look and what you normally feel comfortable with.
Charlotte will remove your makeup for you and give your skin a mini facial before starting your makeover.
On the wedding day
“Will you have time to do my whole bridal party?”
Charlotte is usually able to fulfill applications for a whole bridal party with ease. Based on your start time and time you need to be ready by, another makeup artists may also be required to allow you the luxury of a later start time on the wedding morning.
“Should I get my hair or makeup done first on my wedding morning?”
In an ideal world, makeup should be applied after hairstyling incase your hair needs to be washed or have product applied to it. However, Charlotte advises you get your makeup done before hairstyling if you intend to have pieces of hair framing your face or a fringe. This is because hair clips are used to secure hair off your face during a makeup application.
"Where should the Bride go in the running order? Is it better for her to have her makeup done last?"
Charlotte always advises that the Bride doesn't go last in running order in case of any unexpected delays during the wedding morning (i.e. unexpected deliveries, visitors, phone calls etc which can all add up precious time). Furthermore, getting the Bride's makeup done in good time allows her to relax and settle her nerves and remember Charlotte will do a final check and touch up to the makeup before you put your dress on.
Also, with it now common place to have a photographer and/or videographer around for the getting ready preparations most brides will prefer to choose shots for their album with their makeup application completed so they look flawless!
“How can I book you as my makeup artist?”
Please make contact as soon as you can to find out if she is available for your wedding date. Remember, popular Summer and Bank Holidays book up fast and although she will try, Charlotte can't be in two places at once.
